A Greek Orthodox monastery was built in the 6th century
over the cave where Christ stayed.
This spot is another of the holy sites said to have been identified
by Queen Helena in her pilgrimage of 326 AD.
Monastery of Temptation
To climb up the bare, rocky slopes of Quruntul mountain,
the path leading to the Monastery is very steep, but is well worth the
walk, only 15-30 minutes.
The nearly 30 to 40 caves on the eastern slopes of the mountain
have been inhabited by monks and hermits since the
early days of Christianity.
