Fishing suburb of Capernaum.
It is situated in a narrow, fertile valley on the northern shore
of the lake, watered by several springs.
Tabgha was a prosperous fishing village located on the
northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee.
The warm water from the springs attracted schools of fish,
mostly musht, especially in the winter.
The movement of the water from the springs at Tabgha was used
to turn millstones to grind grain.
Christians of the early Byzantine period built monastries,
churches, and shrines in Galilee and on the shores of the Sea of
Galilee.
To commemorate the ministry of Jesus and the miracles ascribed to him.

The earliest building at Tabgha was a small chapel from the 4th century.
